Its functional neurosurgery centre has been the world's largest deep brain stimulation implantation centre for years, with more than 8,000 procedures completed.
Neurosurgery was founded here in 1958 by Prof. Zhao Yicheng, regarded as the father of Chinese neurosurgery. The China-INI building, designed with the International Neuroscience Institute in Hannover, opened in December 2018.
